Job Title: Level 2 Smart Hands Technician – School District
Location: Westfield, NJ
Duration: Approximately 2–3 weeks
Start Date: ASAP

Job Description

We are looking for 2–3 Level I Smart Hands / Field Technicians to support a school district in Westfield, NJ following a virus/malware incident. Technicians will provide hands-on support by physically accessing and working on laptops, Chromebooks, and peripheral devices affected by the incident.

This is primarily a hands-on hardware/device support role . Technicians will follow the client's procedures and instructions for identifying, handling, cleaning, reimaging, replacing, disconnecting, or otherwise remediating affected equipment.

Responsibilities

• Travel to multiple school district locations as assigned.
• Physically access and work with laptops, Chromebooks, desktops, and peripherals .
• Assist with virus/malware remediation activities according to documented procedures.
• Disconnect, reconnect, move, inventory, label, and verify IT equipment as required.
• Follow instructions from the client's remote IT/security team.
• Perform basic Level I troubleshooting and hardware checks.
• Maintain accurate records of devices serviced, including asset tags/serial numbers when required.
• Take required photos and provide completion notes.
• Escalate any hardware, software, or security issues that cannot be resolved onsite.
• Follow all school district security, safety, and visitor-access procedures.
• Maintain professionalism when working around school staff and students.

Required Skills / Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Field Technician, Desktop Support Technician, Smart Hands Technician, or Level I IT Technician .
• Basic knowledge of laptops, Chromebooks, desktops, printers, monitors, docking stations, and other IT peripherals.
• Comfortable physically handling and connecting IT equipment.
• Ability to follow detailed technical instructions and documented procedures.
• Good communication and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently in a school environment.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel between assigned school locations.
• Must be dependable and available for the full project duration.

Background Check / School Requirements

• Background check required.
• Fingerprinting may be required if technicians will be working inside school buildings.
• Technicians must be able to meet all applicable school district/vendor access and security requirements.
• No technician should report onsite until all required screening and access requirements are completed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move standard IT equipment such as laptops, monitors, printers, and peripherals.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work around desks/workstations for extended periods.
• Ability to safely handle and transport IT equipment between locations.
